Abstract

Floristic study in the forests of Thrissur District, along the Western Ghats of Kerala was carried out. Angiosperms is the dominant plant group, 1225 species belonging to 701 genera under 129 families, were found growing naturally. Another 52 exotics, either raised in forest plantations or occasionally grown by settlers in forest areas were also recorded. Among the 1225 species collected, 5 are new species and 6 are new record of occurrence for South India. There are 51 species that have been put under various threat categories, a few as possibly extinct. Several taxa considered to be restricted to Southern Kerala found extended further north to the study area
