Abstract

Teak suffers from a number of diseases which cause minor to considerable damage to trees in plantations throughout India. The current status of diseases in teak plantations in India is evaluated under three broad categories viz., diseases of wider occurrence, serious diseases of restricted occurrence, and potentially serious diseases. Future research needs which may fulfil the existing gaps in information and importance of monitoring the disease situation regularly in managing the plantations are highlighted. The information generated ultimately will be very useful in adopting the right strategy for managing the teak diseases in plantations thoughout the country. It is suggested to bring out a compendium of teak diseases in India which will not only help the practising foresters in identifying and managing the diseases but facilitate the researchers in pursuing further research on various pathological aspects
