Abstract

In this final report of the research project Wood 03/1979 covering the period Oct. 1979-Mar. 1982, it is noted that the service life of rubber wood could be increased by treating 25 mm thick planks with a 10 boric acid equivalent (BAE) solution containing 0.5 sodium pentachlorophenoxide at ambient temp. for 40 min. This simple process could be carried out even in a small size sawmill and enables full utilization of timber from the large number of trees felled in rubber-producing areas once their economic life (30-35 yr) is over
