Abstract

The Fungal diversity in Kerala is assessed through a review of the relevant literature. It is estimated that, if the vascular plant fungal ratio of 1: 6 is applied for Kerala, there should be around 24000 fungal species in the state. However, only 5 percent of the fungal flora is now known, which means that our knowledge of the fungal flora of Kerala remains much in the pioneer phase. The review examines the constraints for studies on fungal diversity in the tropics and identifies the future needs
