The book is organised into 18 chapters dealing with different aspects of shola or Southern mountain wet temperate forests of Kerala, like vegetation, flora, fauna, soil, water and management issues related to this specialised tropical ecosystem having affinities with temperate forests. Results of the slides conducted on Plant and animal diversity, endemism, regeneration and conservation aspects of different components of the ecosystem were studied through different research programmes are cornbined in this volume. Also, the status of knowledge on the environment and biodiversity of the ecosystem is reviewed and a synthesis chapter on the details available in different chapters of the book, pointing out data gaps, is also given. The book is well illustrated.
