Dr. Sreejith Kalpuzha Ashtamoorthy is a renowned researcher specializing in tropical forests and climate change, with a particular focus on the Western Ghats. He is actively involved in several global research networks, including ForestPlots.net (University of Leeds, UK), the Global Ecosystems Monitoring Network (University of Oxford, UK), TreeWatch.net, BioTIME (University of St Andrews, UK), the International Tree Mortality Network (ITMN; IUFRO), and the Global Mangrove Alliance. At the national level, he collaborates with premier institutions such as ISRO, IISc, ICFRE, and NCBS.

His research primarily focuses on vegetation dynamics, climate change, plant functional traits and other ecological processes through the long-term monitoring of an extensive network of Permanent Sample Plots. He maintains a 10-hectare permanent research plot in the tropical evergreen forests of Sholayar in the Western Ghats, one of the region's important long-term ecological monitoring sites.

Dr. Sreejith also contributes significantly to biodiversity documentation, including the discovery and description of new species of fungi, plants, and fauna. His expertise extends to the application of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in forestry research and natural resource management. He also serves as an expert for judiciary and other bodies

He has successfully completed more than 30 research projects and has authored over 150 scientific publications. His research has been published in several high-impact international journals, including the prestigious journal Nature. Notably, his contribution to the Nature publication marked the first research article published in Nature in the 50-year history of the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI). He also serves as a reviewer for leading international journals, including those in the Nature Portfolio.
