Dr. Rajan Pilakandy undertook several research projects across India, including studies on disease ecology in Northeast India, wildlife monitoring in the Munnar landscape, and bird migration in Chilika (Odisha). Dr. Rajan also contributed to the preparation of the management plan for Fudam Bird Sanctuary (Diu), eco-sensitive zone planning for four national parks and one sanctuary under Munnar Wildlife Division, and the eco-development plan for Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park and Mount Harriet National Park in the Andaman Islands. Additionally, he was involved in the impact assessment of 3D seismic surveys in the Godavari region (Andhra Pradesh), research on burrowing animals in Rajasthan, and various wildlife studies across diverse landscapes. Dr. Rajan Pilakandy has collaborated with SACON, BNHS, Munnar Wildlife Division, DRL (DRDO), and Siddharth Foundation as part of his research career.
