Kerala Forest Seed Centre (KFSC) at KFRI Peechi

Kerala Forest Seed Centre (KFSC) was established in 2003 as a collaborative venture between the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) and the Kerala Forest Department (KFD). The Seed Centre is located on the KFRI main campus at Peechi.

The main objectives of the KFSC are to collect, process, store, certify, and supply seeds of various forestry species to stakeholders as per International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) standards. In addition, the KFSC conducts research programmes on seed handling techniques and storage technology, imparts technical support on improvements/amelioration measures for existing seed stands, and more.

Since its inception, KFSC has provided about 300 tonnes of certified seeds of forestry species. Moreover, seed handling information of the major species is provided to stakeholders within and outside the State. Apart from the general facilities for seed testing and processing, KFSC has other facilities, such as cold rooms with various storage temperatures, especially for recalcitrant seeds. More details about the availability of seeds and prices are available at the Service section of this website.
