The second day of the one-week compulsory training program for in-service IFS Officers on โ€œBamboo Resource Development for Addressing Livelihood Concerns in Communitiesโ€ was both engaging and hands-on.
The day began with a lecture on โ€œBamboo: Nursery and Plantation for Future Economyโ€ by Dr. V. B. Sreekumar, which was followed by enriching campus visits covering the Butterfly Garden, Insect Collection, Wildlife Museum, Xylarium, and Soil Museum. Officers also explored the Bambusetum at KFRI, Peechi, and the Field Research Centre at Velupadam, gaining exposure to bamboo diversity, nursery techniques, and field-level conservation practices.
The sessions and visits highlighted bambooโ€™s potential in sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, and eco-restoration.
