The Kerala Forest Research Institute (KSCSTE-KFRI) has commenced βSastra Sameeksha 2026β, an annual science exposure and training program for school students, continuously supported and funded by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).
The program was formally inaugurated today, July 21, 2026, by Dr. Kannan C. S. Warrier, Director, KFRI. Aimed at igniting scientific curiosity and environmental awareness among young learners, this year's edition spans across July 21, 22, and 24, welcoming a new batch of students each day.
The inaugural session opened with a welcome address by Dr. A. V. Raghu (Senior Principal Scientist & Training Associate), followed by the inaugural address by Director Dr. Kannan C. S. Warrier.
Mr. Arun V. R. (Scientist & Training Coordinator) presented a detailed briefing on the training schedule and objectives, while Dr. V. B. Sreekumar (Senior Principal Scientist & Training Associate) offered felicitations. The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. K. A. Sreejith (Principal Scientist & Training Associate).
Throughout the three-day program, participating student batches will interact with KFRI scientists across sessions covering lichens as environmental sponges, insect behavior, butterfly science, wildlife conservation, plant tissue culture, and soil-water conservation practices. The students will also get a hands-on experience walking through the KFRI campus, scientific labs, and museums to observe forest research up close.
