The second day of the one-week compulsory training program for in-service IFS Officers on βBamboo Resource Development for Addressing Livelihood Concerns in Communitiesβ was both engaging and hands-on. The day began with a lecture on βBamboo: Nursery and Plantation for Future Economyβ by Dr. V. B. Sreekumar, which was followed by enriching campus visits covering the Butterfly Garden, Insect Collection, Wildlife Museum, Xylarium, and Soil Museum. Officers also explored the Bambusetum at KFRI, Peechi, and the Field Research Centre at Velupadam, gaining exposure to bamboo diversity, nursery techniques, and field-level conservation practices.
The sessions and visits highlighted bambooβs potential in sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, and eco-restoration.
