Celebrating World Wildlife Day with action and education

As part of the United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD), KFRI organized and participated in a series of programmes:
Dr. P. Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Wildlife Biology, inaugurated the WWD celebrations at A.U.P.S. Kannara. Ms. Shireen Sithara, Curator of the Wildlife Museum, KFRI, delivered a talk on observing birds and snakes in our surroundings. In line with this year’s theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” medicinal plants were provided for the school’s medicinal plant garden with the support of the Regional-cum-Facilitation Centre, Southern Region (NMPB-RCFC Southern Region), and the Central Nursery, KFRI.
Mr. Sreehari Raman, Researcher at KFRI, delivered a talk on the ecology, behaviour, and conservation of reptiles during a one-day workshop organized for SARPA volunteers at the Vanasree Complex, Kasaragod Range, under the Social Forestry Division of the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, as part of WWD 2026.
