Hands on training in Soil Analytical Techniques

The Department of Soil Science, KSCSTE-Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, Thrissur, is organising a hands-on training programme in ‘Soil Analytical techniques’ from October 15-25th, 2024


This training program covers a range of topics related to soil sampling and testing. It comprises introductory sessions on the importance of soil testing and hands-on experience in soil analysis using modern tools and equipment. The training modules are designed to equip the participants to analyse the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil.

  • Physical properties – Bulk density, particle density, soil temperature, soil colour, soil moisture, soil texture and aggregate stability
  • Chemical properties – pH, electrical conductivity, macro and micronutrients and heavy metals
  • Biological properties: Soil enzymes, Microbial Biomass Carbon, and Nitrogen. In addition, training will be given in interpreting the soil results and preparing soil health cards.
