As part of the World Environment Day 2025 celebrations, Prof. A. Sabu, the Member Secretary of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), visited the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in Peechi. His visit was a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
During his visit, Prof. Sabu participated in a symbolic act of environmental stewardship by planting a sapling on the KFRI campus. This simple yet meaningful gesture was a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard the planet’s future, aligning with this year’s theme: “Beat Plastic Pollution”.
The Kerala Forest Research Institute, an esteemed institution under the aegis of KSCSTE, continues to make significant strides in forestry, biodiversity, and ecological restoration. Prof. Sabu's presence at the event highlighted the vital role of scientific research and public engagement in advancing environmental protection.
“KFRI’s ongoing work in ecological restoration, forest management, and biodiversity conservation is crucial for building a sustainable future. The act of planting a tree today symbolises our shared responsibility to protect nature and reduce the harm caused by plastic pollution,” Prof. Sabu remarked.
The event also featured a discussion on KFRI’s latest research initiatives and community outreach programs, which focus on preserving Kerala’s rich biodiversity and natural ecosystems.
