Researchers from the Wildlife Biology Division of the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) made a significant mark at the 32nd International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2025) held in Brisbane, Australia. The global event, which concluded today, saw the presentation of three impactful research papers by KFRI scientists, highlighting their contributions to conservation science and international knowledge exchange.

The research presentations highlight KFRI's strong emphasis on ecological research, conservation strategies, and international collaboration. These papers reflect the institute's ongoing commitment to addressing pressing conservation challenges, especially those concerning bat ecology and the interface of biodiversity and public health.

Presented Papers:

  • Srehari Raman & Dr. P. Balakrishnan
  • Monitoring and Identifying Important Bat Conservation Areas in South India
  • This study emphasises the need to map and protect critical bat habitats in South India, crucial for maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity.

  • Mahalakshmi C & Dr. S. Raman
  • Impact of Biogeographic Barriers on Bat Evolution: Phenotypic Plasticity in the Western Ghats' Endemic and Endangered Hipposideros pomona
  • Focusing on an endangered species, this research explores how geographical barriers influence bat evolution, with implications for species adaptation and conservation planning.
